On January 30, 2020, the City and its Small Area Plan consultant team held a public meeting with stakeholders to present initial concepts for Northfax and solicit feedback on the plans. The consultant's initial recommendations for Northfax included:
-
Create a sense of place with an environmentally-focused identity
-
Balance land use through adding retail and residential uses
-
Strengthen multimodal connections to adjacent neighborhoods
During the meeting, attendees broke out into small groups and participated in a charrette to develop concepts they'd like to see in Northfax, then presented the concepts to the meeting's attendees. Some common themes stakeholders presented included:
- Desire for green space, open spaces for events, and appropriate greenery
- Connecting Northfax to surrounding neighborhoods, especially for pedestrians and bicyclists, and enhanced transit options
- Introduce desirable and well-planned retail destinations, residential options that support retail, and appropriate office/work spaces that adapt to weaknesses in the office market
